Newly published poet Mehak Goyal spoke on the topic, ‘How to publish your poems’ to students and faculty of Carmel College of Arts, Commerce, and Science for Women, Nuvem, Goa on 30 September 2023. The event was hosted by the Department of English. Ms. Goyal was introduced by event coordinator, Dr. Brian Mendonça.
Ms. Goyal shared a PowerPoint presentation taking students through various styles of poetry in English. She provided poetry prompts exemplifying them through the poems of Fatimah Ashgar, Tishani Doshi, Arjun Rajendran, and Jerry Pinto. She urged students to express their thoughts in a diary or a journal.
She spoke about her roller-coaster ride to find a publisher and eventually landing one in Juggernaut Books. She read from her debut volume titled Failure to Make Round Rotis: Poems on Rebellion, Resistance and Relationships published in July this year.
The session ended with book signings as students and staff stepped up to buy their copies. Nadia proposed the vote of thanks.
