    Department of English

The Department of English delivers syllabi in Language, Literature, Communication and Soft Skills, Business Communication, Digital Story- telling, as well as mainstream literary studies , the Performance Arts and media studies.

Alumni from the department have pursued further studies at prestigious institutions like St. Xavier’s Institute of Communication and Sophia Polytechnic Mumbai, besides Postgraduate and B.Ed degrees at Goa University.  Many hold successful jobs and pursue careers in teaching, public relations, event management, journalism and the airlines.

The faculty encourage students to participate in extra and co-curricular activities and has nurtured student leaders to hold positions of leadership at the college and community level. Students are trained to present papers at seminars and literary festivals, debates, orator and public speaking contests. Activities like creative and travel writing workshops, guest lectures, meetings with writers and poets, active involvement in the Goa Arts and Literary Festival encourage interactive learning. The Kala Ghoda study tour once in 2 years to the performance and literary festival in Mumbai provides the students with invaluable exposure to the visual and performance arts and inculcates Integrated Skills in English (ISE), the new mantra on the education horizon. The department also plans visits in the future to the Jaipur and Mumbai literary festival and the Edinburgh Theatre Festival.

Small classes at the degree level and a tutorial style of teaching-learning environment ensure personal attention and enrichment. Innovative teaching pedagogy like using experiential theatre methods or music in teaching aesthetics assure that students are exposed to the latest methodologies.
