A team of five students of the PG Department of Food Technology, Carmel College, Goa- Ms. Swizel Lucia Pereira, Ms. Valanka D’souza, Ms. Vaishnavi Kasar, Ms. Swezel Hansia Pereira and Ms. Keziah De Costa, guided by the faculty Dr. Maria Carina Cordeiro and Ms. Nezlyn Cressida D’Souza – won the first place for a product they developed and presented at the State-Level Huddle organised by the Directorate of Food and Drug Administration (DFDA) and Goa College of Home Science in collaboration with Comepostville and WICCI-Goa on 29 September 2023 to commemorate International Day of Awareness on Food Loss and Waste Reduction.
The students developed a novel innovative product composed of ragi with banana peel flour as the main ingredients keeping the international year of millet and upcycling of waste in mind. The product was well appreciated by the panelists, other participants and remained the talk of the town. The students were also encouraged and advised to launch the product in the market.
