International Women’s Day was observed with SOPs in Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women on 8th March 2021. The event began with the welcome address by the officiating Principal, Dr. Aldina Braganza. Dr Braganza dwelt on the theme of IWD i.e. ‘Choose to Challenge.’ The chief guest of the day was Dr. Deepa Correia-Afonso, Medical superintendent of Hospicio Hospital, Margao. In her keynote address Dr. Correia-Afonso said that women are unique and need not be compared with men. Nurses of the Hospicio hospital performed the Jerusalema dance in the wide space of the basketball court. Several games were organized for the selected students. They included penalty shootout; shoot the hoop; sack race, and filling the bottle. The highlight was a character fashion show. The theme was women achievers. The event ended with a tug-of-war between the staff and the students. Ms. Roxana Singh, of the faculty, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was conceptualized by the NSS unit of Carmel College led by NSS Coordinator Dr. Rovina Fernandes. This time the men took the lead in organizing the activities. The show was compered by Agnelo Dias – with commentary by Brian Mendonca. The Women’s Cell of Carmel College organized a special webinar for women titled, ‘Healthy Eating for Healthy Living.’ The resource person was Joline Fernandes, Nutritionist.
