On the 29th of October, 2022, a total of 48 students of MSc Food Technology, Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Nuvem, visited the first alcohol museum in the country – LPK’s
All About Alcohol Museum, Candolim, Goa. The students were accompanied by Ms Nezlyn Cressida D’Souza, Dr Maria Cordeiro and Ms Ankita Deodhar.
This year-old establishment is a product of businessman Nandan Kudchadkar’s collection of various glassware and components related to the production and presentation of various types of alcoholic beverages. The museum curator and docent, Mr Armando Duarte, guided and educated us on the artefacts through a 40-minute tour, that was attended by students in two batches. The museum was divided into five rooms – the glassware room, the tavern, the smoking room, the distillery and the feni cellar. Mr Armando elaborated on the historical events associated with the production and consumption of alcohol, and the establishment of Cashew Feni as the Geographical Indicator of Goa. He further elaborated on their collection of antiques and unique glassware from around the world – the usage of each glass and the beverages served in them. The feni storage cellar housed various antique equipment used by our ancestors in the home-scale production of feni. The museum also allowed a glimpse into the mechanisms employed during the olden times and provided a wholesome and unique experience.
The tour concluded with the ‘Feni Drinking and Tasting Session’, wherein Mr Duarte presented four Feni-based drinks developed by their mixologist, Mr Abu. The four drinks were Love, Passion, Karma and Neat Feni, and the students were taught the science behind the formulation of these beverages and how to pair them with food.
