Goa Forest Department, Wildlife and Ecotourism, South, Margao in collaboration with Department of Zoology, Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, Nuvem celebrated World Wildlife Day with an intercollegiate event ‘Eremos 2023’ on 3rd March, aimed at bringing together young undergraduate students from across the State to celebrate the day.
The purpose of this event was to create awareness of our vast wildlife; enthuse and persuade young students to be the next generation which will conserve our treasured wildlife. March 3, 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), fostering partnerships across the globe focusing on conservation of species and ecosystems.
The Principal, Dr. Sr. Maria Lizanne A.C. inaugurated the event and addressed the gathering in the presence of Assistant Conservator of Forest Shri Damodar Salelkar. The event saw participation of 6 college teams Don Bosco College,Panjim, Ganpat Parsekar College of Education, PG Food Technology Carmel College, Murgaon Education Society (M. E. S.) BBA College, Dhempe College of Arts and Science, P.E.S.Ravi S. Naik College of Arts and Science in various competitions. The first ‘On stage’ competition was Elocution named ‘Conservation Conversation’ where the participating teams spoke on various topics extempore. Two ‘off stage’ events were conducted simultaneously i.e. Treasure Hunt, the ‘Wildlhunt’ and Paper collage, the ‘Bigger picture’. Paper collage theme was ‘Biodiversity Hotspots of India’. The final ‘on-stage’ event was fashion Show ‘Mythos’ with the theme ‘faunal depictions in mythology’. The show put up by all teams was spectacular with narrations and depictions from Hindu and Greek mythology.
The valedictory function was attended by Deputy Conservator of Forest Shri Aniket Gaonkar and Assistant Conservator of Forest Shri Damodar Salelkar. Shri Aniket Gaonkar spoke on world wildlife day and the work of the forest department. The students of Second year BSc performed during the event and the event concluded with the distribution of prizes for each event. The winners of ‘EREMOS 2023’ were Team Don Bosco College, Panjim and Runners up were Ganpat Parsekar College of Education, Harmal.
