The NSS unit of Carmel College initiated a Save Small, Buy Small, Donate Big Collectively Through The NSS campaign with the following objectives:
- To inculcate the habit of saving among youngsters.
- Sensitize youth to the needs of the underprivileged.
- Donate in kind and develop a sense of social responsibility.
The campaign started on 8th of April 2022 and ended on 31st May 2022. Students had to save one rupee a day and buy items usable to the kids in the orphanage.
Totally 32 different varieties of items of daily usage was collected by the NSS unit from the NSS volunteers and the faculty of Carmel College Nuvem. The items included brand new books , stationery pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners,rulers, colour pencils, sketch pens ,water colours,wax crayons, pens, fevicol bottles, ccoloring books,drawing books,exercise books, labels, tiffin box set, and geometry sets. A large variety of biscuits,jellies,Tang,clothes,shoes,watch,hair clips ,story books and puzzles and masks and sanitisers were also donated by the students and staff.
On the 1st of June,2022,the NSS faculty along with a student volunteer, visited Valentina’s Little Heaven, an Orphanage in Colva, Goa and handed over the items to the orphanage authorities, specifically here to Mr. Valerino. The NSS team also had a brief interaction with the authorities and the children at the orphanage. The orphanage had 70 children, aged between 4 months to 22 years. The children’s curiosity and excitement was evident when they saw the items being donated to their orphanage and made the visit and donation worthwhile.
