Report on the webinar on ‘Nutritional Anemias and Microgreens for Health’

The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Carmel College of Arts Science & Commerce for Women, Nuvem-Goa conducted a webinar on ‘Nutritional Anemias and Microgreens for Health’ . The webinar was organised as part of the activities
outlined for the Poshan Pakhwada 2022 by the Government of India, Ministry of Women & Child Development . The
webinar was organised on on 3rd April at 11.a.m.

The webinar was aimed at- Prevention & management of anemia and Promotion of traditional food for healthy mother &
child, under the Poshan Abiyaan initiative by Ministry of Women and Child Development of Government of India,
commemorating 75 years of Indian Independence i.e. Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav in oder to create Nutritional awareness
for holistic development.

The webinar also sought to address the problem of anemia that was found to be widely prevalent among the young
student volunteers for the blood donation camp that was organised on the college campus in the month of December
2021.

The resource person for the webinar was Ms. Sheryl Afonse e Dsouza, an expert in the field of Nutrition. Co-Owner of
Nobert’s Fitness Studio, a well-known chain of Fitness Studios in Goa, Ms Afonso obtained her Master’s degree in Food,
Nutrition & Dietetics from the University of Mumbai, and was previously employed at Goa Medical College of Home
Science. She is currently working as Course Coordinator in the Post Graduate Degree Department of Food Technology at
Carmel College for Women, Nuvem, Goa. under ‘ Poshan Abhiyan’ on

The host for the webinar was Ms. Kumar Ashiwni who started off the webinar by leading everyone into prayer. After the
prayer, the Principal, Dr. Sr. Maria Lizanne AC addressed the gathering briefly, commenting on the significance of
Microgreens in our lives. Ms. Satardekar Sumathi, NSS Co-ordinator introduced the speaker, who then took over the
session.

The Nutritional expert speaker for the webinar was Ms. Sheryl Afonso e D’souza, delivered a brilliant presentation on
Nutritional anemias and significance of microgreens in our daily lives.

The presentation by Ms. Afonso e D’souza generated a vibrant interactive session with numerous question and answer
rounds between the attendees and speaker. The curtains on the webinar were drawn with the vote of thanks, proposed by
Miss Swena Vaz, NSS representative of Carmel College for Women.

The webinar witnessed great enthusiasm and was a great success with a total of 150 students including faculty members,
who benefitted from this webinar.

The webinar was conducted via Google Meet & was live streamed on YouTube for attendees.
