The faculty members of Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women organised CarmelSparx 2023 – An Inter-class Competition for all the undergraduate and postgraduate students of the college. The competition was organised on 25th February 2023 within the college premises.
In keeping with Carmel tradition, the event began with Ms. Nicole Coutinho, Assistant Professor, leading the gathering in prayer. Thereafter, students from various classes came together to perform a prayer dance. After this, our Principal, Dr. Sr. Maria Lizanne A.C. addressed the gathering and declared CarmelSparx 2023 open. The event began with the introduction of the mascots by the teachers in the organising committee. Subsequently, the event coordinators commenced with the onstage and offstage competitions. For the onstage competition, there was Shake It Off (Flash Mob), Fight Song (Battle of the Bands), Funky Town (Comedy Act) and Flip the Switch (Debate). The offstage competitions were Blood, Sweat and Tears (Treasure Hunt), Tik Tok (Reel-making), Pitch Perfect (Pitching a Business Idea), Begin Again (Upcycling) and Quiz Whizz (Quiz on GK and Pop Culture).
Ten teams participated in the various competitions organised. Team names were taken from famous female characters in history, mythology and fiction. As the Valedictory commenced, Mr. Meetal Raikar, Assistant Professor, proposed the Vote of Thanks. Thereafter, Ms. Pratiksha Sail, Assistant Professor took over for the prize distribution. Team Katniss (FYBA) and Team Poppins (SYBSC) were in a close race, however, SYBSC earned a few key victories that propelled them to the top and they were declared the winners of CarmelSparx 2023. FYBA were declared as the runners-up.
