A 6 days Certificate Course in Bakery and Cookery was organised by the Department of Botany, Carmel College of Arts, Science & Commerce for Women, Nuvem, in collaboration with Dalima’s Institute of Bakery & Cookery and Khadi and Village Industries Commission (MSME), Govt. of India from 12 th to 17 th November, 2018.
There were more than 30 participants for the training programme which included students, businessmen, working people, housewives and even doctors. All the participants enthusiastically put their hands together to churn out a variety of bakery and cookery dishes under the expert guidance of Chef Peter A. Fernandes, Principal of Dalima’s Institute of Bakery and Cookery and owner of Dalima’s Bakery at Per-Seraulim, Colva and Chef Sydney, retired faculty from Agnel Institute of Food Crafts & Culinary Sciences, Verna..
The Valedictory programme of the Certificate Course saw a colourful display of a variety of bakery and cookery items prepared by the participants. In her welcome address, the Principal of Carmel College for Women, Dr. Sr. Aradhana A.C. congratulated Mrs. Meena Miranda e Verdes, Associate Professor, Department of Botany and her team as well as the participants and encouraged them to utilize the skills they have learnt. Participants Dr. Suvarna Fonseca e Antao and Peter D’Costa spoke about their experiences during the 6 days of baking and cooking. The main organizer of the course Chef Peter A. Fernandes in his address expressed satisfaction over this combined Bakery and Cookery Course and assured the participants of his support to start their own business ventures. Shri. Tambe, S.S., State Director, Khadi and Village Industries Commission and Manager of Khadi Bhandar (Margao and Panjim), extended his support in combining the above course with EDP Training with certificates that will help the participants in obtaining financial assistance from the government under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme. In her address, the Chief Guest, Smt. Deepali Dilip Naik, Joint Director, Women and Child Development, Govt. of Goa, congratulated the participants and urged them to make use of the many opportunities available to them. She explained about the various schemes for women and also about the assistance available under various Government schemes. Smt. S. Chowdhary, AGM, SBI, Margao was also present.
