The Department of English, Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, organised a virtual National-level One-Day Workshop on Research Methodology, MLA 9th Edition on November 27, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The resource person for the same was Dr. Akshata Bhat, Assistant Professor, DCT’s Dhempe College of Arts and Science.
At the outset, Dr. Glenis Mendonça, Associate Professor and Coordinator of the workshop, greeted the attendees and introduced the resource person. Dr. Bhat began her presentation by emphasising the need for research as it is the process of knowledge creation which goes hand-in-hand with academics. She also stated that in order for research output to be considered as ethical, systematic and credible, citation and referencing are mandatory. Dr. Bhat further highlighted that the MLA 9th Edition is particularly significant as it has expanded the scope of sources, making it the most extensive, inclusive and futuristic edition to date. The workshop covered three broad topics which were as follows: general formatting in prose, how to cite works (bibliography) and how to provide in-text citations/references.
Dr. Bhat followed up her presentation with a Q & A session. The workshop concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Ms. Roxana Singh, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of English. A total of 106 students, researchers and lecturers from all over India participated in the workshop. The workshop was curated as an initiative under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav – a celebration of India’s 75th year of independence.
