Meenaba Gohil and Nimisha Patil of TYBA, English presented their papers at the annual international conference (Hybrid Mode) on Writing in Restricted Spaces organized by the Rajasthan Association for Studies in English, Udaipur. Meenaba spoke on Haruki Murakami and writing about the forbidden with special reference to his novel Kafka on the Shore. Nimisha spoke on how writing helped to cope with COVID. Faculty from the Department of English also presented their papers. Ashwini Kumar presented her paper on Deepa Mehta’s films Fire and Water. Ayeesha Antao presented on how films of the 80’s show students breaking out of confining spaces. She spoke of Dead Poets Society (1989). Dr. Brian Mendonca interviewed a convict and presented a paper on prisons, people and art in Goa. He showed how art and poetry helped to redeem the life of a prisoner who was served a life sentence, and is now on parole. The papers were well-received.
