A hands-on Certificate Course in Bakery was organised by the Department of Botany, Carmel College of Arts, Science & Commerce for Women, Nuvem Salcete Goa, in collaboration with Dalima’s Institute of Bakery & Cookery, Colva Goa and Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Govt. of Goa (Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India) from 18 th  to 23 rdNovember, 2019.

 

The 21 participants enthusiastically put their hands together during the 6 days of intensive baking to prepare a variety of baked products which included various types of bread, biscuits, snacks and cakes under the expert guidance of Chef Peter A. Fernandes, Principal of Dalima’s Institute of Bakery and Cookery and Propreitor of Dalima’s Bakery at Per-Seraulim, Colva who is very keen in teaching baking techniques to amateur bakers and inspiring them to become professionals in the field.

The valedictory programme of the Certificate Course saw a colourful display of a variety of baked products prepared by the participants. The Manager of Carmel Society, Nuvem, Sr. Matilda Madtha A.C. welcomed the gathering and lauded the efforts of Mrs. Meena Miranda e Verdes, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Botany and her team in organizing the course for the second year in succession. This year also the course has been recognised by the Khadi & Village Industries Commission, Govt. of Goa (Ministry of MSME, Govt. of India) which will be of immense benefit to the participants who wish take up baking as a profession and start their own ventures under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme. Sr. Matilda congratulated the participants and encouraged them to utilize the skills they have learnt. She thanked Chef Peter Fernandes and Shri. S.S. Tambe, State Director of Khadi and Village Industries Commission for their association with the college. Participants Ms. Sujasca Dias, Mr. Ganesh Patil and Ms. Aarti Halarnkar spoke about their experience during the 6 days of intensive baking. Chef Peter Fernandes in his address expressed satisfaction over the conduction of this course and assured the participants his support to start their own business ventures. In her address, the Chief Guest, Adv. Pratima Coutinho congratulated the participants and appreciated their efforts and urged them to make use of opportunities available to them to reach greater heights. The convenor of the course, Mrs. Meena Miranda e Verdes, proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was compered by Ms. Marsha Rodrigues of the Department of Botany.gs.
