As a part of Discover India Programme[DIP] 13 students accompanied by their Faculty Mr. Amit Anurag of Flame University, Pune, visited Carmel College on 2nd March, 2024. The students were doing an ethnographic study on Mando music. They were in Goa from 25th February to 2nd of March during which they met musicians, academicians, and common people to understand the socio-cultural aspect of the Mando art form.
The department of Konkani headed by Ms. Queenie Viegas arranged a Mando and Dulpod performance for the team by first year Minor students, and later had an interaction with the team in the library. Five faculty members, Mr. Agnelo Dias of the History department and Ms. Queenie Viegas, Mr. Ambar Naik, Mr.Vishwapratap Pawar and Ms. Sujata Kambli of the Konkani department gave an insight into the origin, history of the Mando, its survival, the changes in the topics, the attire, blend of western and Indian instruments with the singing [Violin, guitar and the Ghumot] to the group.
The group was happy and satisfied with the interactions and grateful for the performance. They also appreciated the beautiful campus and the hospitality.
