The Startup and Incubation Committee in association with the Department of Economics, Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women organised a lecture series on the theme “Idea to Innovation-what does it take to startup?”. Lecture 01 on “Prospects and Challenges of Agricultural Startups” ­was held on 5th August 2023 at 11:30 a.m. in the college auditorium.

The speaker was Miss Liza Pinheiro, founder of ‘Fruits of Hard Work’ a business which provides kitchen gardening, landscaping and plant consultancy.  It was attended by over 80 students across disciplines. Miss Pinheiro presented insights into her remarkable journey in the field of agriculture and the opportunities there to convert knowledge and skills into lucrative agrobusinesses with the aid of technology. Sharing on how she used social media platform to turn the COVID related setback into an opportunity, she spoke about her Instagram page called Fruits of Hard work, where she would post pictures of the plants she grew at home and shared her knowledge on manuring and pest control methods. This idea turned into business opportunity when people started approaching her for service and consultancy. Among her pioneer contracts were landscaping for Teles Megastore, kitchen garden for Institute of Maritime Studies, Bogda and medicinal garden for M.E.S college. She now owns a profitable business with a seed and plant store set up at Vasco as well. She also has business partnerships with like-minded colleagues who graduated with her from the Agriculture College, Sulcorna.

  She covered aspects of business scaling and growth and briefed the students about the incubation centres, namely, CIBA in Verna and FIIRE at Don Bosco College of Engineering in Fatorda which can nurture business ideas to turn them into innovative businesses. She concluded by informing students about the various government schemes for startups in Goa.   

 Liza’s business ideas, passion and creativity has gained her fame and success. She is a young business woman who inspires other youngsters to pursue their passion with determination, patience and perseverance so as to be able to bear the fruits of hard work.
