The Department of Economics of Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, organized ECON 2023, an inter-collegiate festival of knowledge, creativity, zest and humour on 18th March, 2023. An impressive backdrop put up by the TYBA students of the Department of Economics of the college on the theme ‘Goan Enterprises of Yesteryears’ and their mesmerizing dance performance on Goan songs set the tone for the event. FYBA students too, enthralled the audience with a musical performance. At the inaugural, Principal of the College, Dr. Sr. Maria Lizanne AC, noted that ECON is a much awaited and popular annual event organized successfully over the years and appreciated the theme for its relevance, stating that the present is build on the past and that the younger generation must know about the enterprises of yesteryears. A total of 8 colleges competed in the various sub-events which aimed to take the young students to the roots of traditional and cultural livelihoods of Goa. In the on-stage competition ‘EcoVentures-Then and Now’, competing teams showcased the transition of Goan traditional enterprises using costume show, tools, dialogues and songs and the team from Fr. Agnel College were the winners of this sub-event. ‘EcoConnect’ was another on-stage competition which was about highlighting the connection of the Mhadei river to Goa’s economy. Rosary College, Navelim were placed on the top spot in this contest. The highlight of the off-stage competitions were the games of yore that were played by the teams with Don Bosco College, Panjim emerging as the winners. In another off-stage event, ‘Enterprisingly Goan’, the competing teams produced creative artwork displaying the use of coconut tree, bamboo, shells and clay and the team from Fr. Agnel College again won the hearts of the judges with their creative art. Teams also went on an EcoTreasure hunt for all things Goan around the campus with Fr. Agnel College finding all the hidden treasures.
At the valedictory, Fr. Agnel College, Pilar was adjudged as the Champion of ECON 2023 while Government College, Sanquelim bagged the runners-up trophy. Miss Nerisha Fernandes proposed the vote of thanks. Miss Shaneli Rodrigues and Miss Nafisa Dias, students of TYBA Economics were the comperes of the event.
ECON 2023 was conceptualized, planned and organized by the TYBA students of Department of Economics of Carmel College with the guidance of the faculty of the Department.
