The department of Political Science had organised a study trip for TYBA Students (Honours and General) on 15th February 2023 to Dabhal Village, Dharbandora Taluka.
The objective of the study trip was to sensitize the students about the impact of mining on environment and also to expose the devastating impact of the closure of mining on the livelihood of the inhabitants.
Since the mining topic is a part of their curricular and falls under their VI SEM paper titled Government & Politics in Goa: Post-Statehood, the students were already briefed in class about the Environmental problems confronted by Mining and to substantiate it, they were taken to the above mentioned site.
The students witnessed the closure of mines and interacted with villagers. They also witnessed the change in the landscape from being filled with the pollution of red Iron ore on the trees, it was now a clearer and green sight. The villagers informed the students about hardships faced by them due to closure of mines as they have lost the source of their livelihood and hoped that government restarts mining soon in Goa. the study trip benefitted 18 students and were accompanied by 3 Faculties of the Department. The study trip was coordinated by Ms. Nazrana B Shaikh.
