The 60th Goa’s Liberation Day celebration at Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women was held on 19th December 2020 on the Carmel campus. It was graced by the newly elected Provincial Superior of the Western Province of The Apostolic Carmel Congregation, Sister Maria Christi A.C., currently the Principal of Carmel Higher Secondary School; Sister Matilda Madtha A.C., the Manager of the College; Dr. Sr. Maria Lizanne A.C., the Vice Principal of the College, other members of the Carmel management, the faculty, and the NSS volunteers. The celebration began at 8.30 a.m. with the traditional custom of the college, the prayer service led by Sister Momita A.C. with the NSS volunteers. NSS volunteers Ms. Steedra and Ms. Rochelle, welcomed the Chief Guest of the day, Sister Maria Christi A.C. with words and a potted plant respectively. After the unfurling of the flag by the Chief Guest, she addressed the gathering with her inspiring and thought-provoking words. Quoting Pope Francis, she said, ‘Look to the past with gratitude, live the present with passion and embrace the Future with Hope’. No matter how bleak the present situation of Goa may be, no matter how uncertain the future of Goa may look, as Goans we need to march forward with hope by living the present with passion working towards a clean, green and peace loving Goa. The programme was anchored by Mr. Agnelo Dias, NSS coordinator. After the vote of thanks the NSS volunteers were assigned spots in the college campus for cleaning.
