The Department of Information Technology, Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, Nuvem, organised a guest lecture titled “AI Tools in MS Office” on 9 October 2026 in the IT Lab. The programme was coordinated by Prof. Solley Thomas, Department of Information Technology.
The session was conducted by Dr. Nisha Sawant, Assistant Professor at Goa Multi-Faculty College, Dharbandora, Goa, for First Year FYBA and B. Com students. The lecture aimed to introduce students to the practical applications of Artificial Intelligence in Microsoft Office and demonstrate how AI-assisted tools can enhance productivity, creativity, and digital competence in academic tasks.
Dr. Nisha Sawant conducted live interactive demonstrations showcasing the integration of the ChatGPT add-in with Microsoft Word and Microsoft PowerPoint. The Microsoft Word session demonstrated how AI can assist in drafting and refining content, improving language quality, summarising information, and structuring academic documents. The Microsoft PowerPoint demonstration highlighted AI applications in generating presentation content, organizing slide structures, and improving visual clarity to save time while maintaining high quality. Emphasis was also placed on critical evaluation, prompt writing, fact verification, and the ethical, responsible use of AI-generated content.
The interactive and demonstration-based approach received an overwhelming response from both students and faculty. The session provided students with hands-on insights into emerging digital productivity tools, reinforcing the importance of AI literacy and responsible technology integration in higher education.
