The Department of Konkani, Carmel College of Arts, Science & Commerce for Women, Nuvem-Goa, celebrated the traditional São João festival of Goa with great enthusiasm and cultural fervour by organising a Copel Making Programme on 24 June 2026, from 9.15 a.m. to 10.15 a.m. in UGCR-14.
The programme commenced with students preparing the traditional Copel, a colourful floral and fruit crown that forms an integral part of the São João celebrations. The Copel was creatively made using locally available fruits, flowers, and leaves, symbolising the joy, prosperity, and abundance brought by the monsoon season.
Following the copel-making session, a Copel Competition was organised in which twelve enthusiastic students participated. The participants showcased their creativity and artistic skills by designing vibrant and aesthetically appealing copels while embracing the cultural significance of the festival. The programme provided an enriching cultural experience and encouraged students to preserve and promote Goa’s rich traditional heritage.
