Dr. Brian Mendonca, Associate Professor and Head, Department of English, served as judge for the finals of the junior category of SpellBee 5.0 organized by Dempo Charities Trust’s Dempo College, Cujira, Goa on 21 August 2026.
It was a keen contest with 10 finalists from schools as far as Vasco. Each contestant attempted to answer 5 curated words ranging from simple to difficult.
SpellBee is the only competition of its kind, garnering 1400 entries across schools this year in its fifth edition.
Words like ‘epistemology,’ ‘zephyr,’ and ‘antithetical’ had their day, as students attempted to spell them with nerves of steel.
