Objectives of the Activity:
- To enable students to accurately identify specialized books and literature belonging to the field of Food Technology.
- To familiarize students with library cataloging systems by documenting Accession and call numbers.
- To provide practical training on citing professional literature using the APA 7th Edition format.
Activity Overview:
On January 15, 2026, the Postgraduate Department of Food Technology (PGFT) and the Department of Library Sciences conducted an engaging academic activity titled “KYB – Know Your Books!” specifically designed for PGFT students. The event, organized by Ms. Nezlyn Cressida D’Souza, aimed to enhance students’ research capabilities and familiarize them with the technical resources available in the college library. The students engaged in a practical “search and document” exercise within the college library (Vincent A.C. Block). Participants were tasked with locating specific texts, analyzing their contents to assign relevant technical keywords, and recording the formal library entry data. The session concluded with a workshop on bibliographic styling, ensuring students can correctly attribute sources in their future research papers and projects.
Outcomes of the Activity:
- Students demonstrated an increased ability to navigate the library’s physical collection efficiently.
- Participants gained confidence in applying APA 7th Edition standards to various types of academic books.
- By assigning keywords, students improved their ability to categorize complex Food Technology topics into defined sub-disciplines.
