Activity Overview
On Wednesday, 8 October 2025, the Postgraduate (Co-Ed) Department of Food Technology at Carmel College of Arts, Science, & Commerce for Women, Nuvem – Goa, organised a highly relevant and insightful session focused on the rapidly evolving sector of Meat Replacers & Alternative Proteins, via online mode (Google Meet) from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM IST.
Mr. Frank Verkroost expertly delivered the session from the HAS Green Academy in the Netherlands, a nation recognised as a global leader in Agribusiness and Food Technology innovation. The goal of the lecture was to provide students and faculty with an understanding of the current market landscape and future directions of sustainable protein sources.
Mr. Verkroost began by grounding the discussion in the context of global food security, climate change, and consumer health. He emphasised the necessity for a shift away from conventional animal agriculture due to its environmental impact and inefficiency. The lecture stressed that success in this sector requires interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly between food technologists, engineers, and supply chain experts. The presentation clearly articulated the transition from niche products to a mainstream global food movement, setting a high standard for our students in terms of understanding the future of protein.
The two-hour session was held entirely in online mode, facilitating participation from a wide audience. The event was successfully managed and coordinated by Ms. Nezlyn C. D’Souza.
