Academic Year AY 25-26
Date of Report 18 August 2025

Activity Overview

The PG Department of Food Technology (PGFT) conducted a talk combined with a Q&A session for the Part I and II MSc students on 18 August 2025. The activity was conducted for the MSc students to understand the importance of an internship. Dr Maria Cordeiro, faculty of the PGFT, coordinated the event. The one-hour session commenced at 10 pm, which also marked the inauguration of ‘AluMixia’. Incorporating the club members was done to improve their social and communicative skills. Dr Cordeiro designed the event ‘AluMixia’ by inviting talks from alumni working in different areas related to food technology.

Dr Cordeiro welcomed the gathering and introduced the Alumni, Ms Steffy Mascarenhas, followed by a prayer by Ms Shanelle DeSouza (student of MSc part II). Ms Steffy Mascarenhas, alumna of batch 2022-2024, had an interactive session, and the students asked their questions at the end of her talk. Ms Mascarenhas informed that she did her one (01) month internship as a part of the curriculum in Biomed Ingredients, a company in Verna and Dr Cordeiro played a vital role in getting it. She also informed that after graduating from the course, Ms Nezlyn D’Souza helped in getting a one-year apprenticeship in ITC Grand. She expressed her gratitude to both faculty members. Through this activity, the significance and process involved in the internship were highlighted, which helped her to be ready to enter the corporate world. She mentioned that her internship and apprenticeship experience was able to give her confidence, sharpen her knowledge and implement skills obtained during the two-year MSc programme. Dr Aduja Naik gave the vote of thanks at the end of the session.

This session was the first of its kind in the department, which was essential for the students, since they would be joining internships in various industries at the end of the semester. Dr Cordeiro intends to have more of such sessions, taking into consideration the academic needs and requirements of the industry. This will also ensure that the alumni can share their experience and thereby continue to be associated with PGFT and Carmel College.
