Objective(s) of the Activity:
- To create awareness among students about the importance of sustainability and environmental responsibility through engaging and creative activities.
- To provide a platform for students from different streams to showcase their creativity, talents, and innovative ideas related to environmental issues.
- To promote teamwork, collaboration, and healthy competition among students through inter-class participation.
- To integrate academic learning with experiential activities, thereby making economic and environmental concepts more meaningful and relatable.
Activity Overview:
The Department of Economics, in collaboration with the EcoVista Club, organised an inter-class competition titled ECON 2026 on 5th March 2026. The theme for the competition was “Eco Pioneers: Youth Redefining Sustainability.” The event aimed to encourage students to creatively engage with the concept of sustainability and environmental responsibility through various competitive activities.
The programme commenced with the compere, Ms. Sameeya Memon, welcoming the gathering and introducing the concept and theme of ECON 2026. This was followed by an address by the principal, who highlighted the significance of such initiatives in fostering awareness about sustainability while also encouraging creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking among students.
The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from eight classes across the streams of Arts, Science, and Commerce. The team names were inspired by extinct species, adding an innovative dimension to the event while reinforcing the importance of environmental conservation. The competition consisted of four events, including two on-stage events and two off-stage events. Throughout the programme, students demonstrated remarkable creativity, strong team spirit, and commendable enthusiasm.

Faces of Sustainability (Face Painting Competition)
- 1st Place: Team Sabers (M.Sc. Food Technology)-Sohani Chari
- 2nd Place: Team Raptor Force (FYBA) – Elysia Braganza
- 3rd Place: Team Direwolves (SYBCom) – Asfiya Shaikh
Snakes and Ladders (Economics-Based Game Event)– The winners were team Direwolves (SYBCom) – Anshu Gaundalker and Prozel Dias
Global Chronicle – Digital Newspaper Designing and Presentation
- 1st Place: Team Direwolves (SYBCom) – Pearl Carvalho and Sachi Naik
- 2nd Place: Team Atlas Bears (SYBA) – Shenalda Miranda
- 3rd Place: Team Woolly Rhinos (SYBSc) – Mehek Shaikh
Rhythm Divine where the Participants were required to present a performance based on the theme “Green Economy / Sustainable Development.” The performances creatively integrated elements of dance, drama, storytelling, and narrative enactment.
- 1st Place: Team Raptor Force (FYBA) – Beverly Dias, Prishka Barwa, Swizel Moniz, Shrishti Gaikwad, and Aditi Naik
- 2nd Place: Team Atlas Bears (SYBA) – Minoshka Fernandes, Princy Colaco, Mackenzy Travasso, Shreya Pereira, and Jenoshka Da Costa
- 3rd Place: Team Woolly Rhinos (SYBSc) – Manisha Das, Riya Kindalkar, Vaibhavi Naik, Prachi Naik, and Sandhaya Saroj
The Championship Trophy of ECON 2026 was awarded to Team Direwolves (SYBCom) for their outstanding performance across multiple events.
Overall, ECON 2026 was a great success. The event not only provided a platform for students to showcase their creativity and talents but also helped promote awareness about sustainability and environmental responsibility in an engaging and interactive manner. The active participation of students and the enthusiastic support of faculty contributed significantly to making the event both meaningful and memorable.
Outcomes of the Activity:
- Students demonstrated a better understanding of sustainability-related themes through artistic, creative, and performance-based presentations.
- The event enhanced team spirit, communication skills, and collaborative learning among participants.
- Participants were able to apply their knowledge of environmental and economic issues in innovative and practical ways.
- The event successfully created a sense of environmental consciousness among students while providing a dynamic and enjoyable learning experience.
