 Objective(s) of the Activities:

  • To promote patriotism and awareness of the Indian National flag colours through creative food art.
  • To enhance knowledge of regional textile traditions and cultural heritage of India.
  • To cultivate creativity and artistic expression through recycled materials inspired by patriotic themes.

Activity Overview:

The Department of Chemistry in collaboration with the Chemsparx Club celebrated the 79th Independence Day with great fervour and enthusiasm on 14th August 2025. The event was beautifully coordinated by Dr. Celia Braganza, Ms. Tanisha Costa and Ms. Priyanka Naik, who ensured smooth execution of all the activities.

As part of the celebration, three vibrant competitions were organized, encouraging creativity, patriotism, and innovation among students across all streams, both UG and PG. The competitions included:

  • Tricolour Food Preparation Competition
  • Map Decoration of India based on Textiles of India
  • Patriotic Bottle Art Competition

 The Tricolour Food Competition was judged by Ms. Inoshka Menezes (Assistant Professor, MSc. Food Technology), while the Map Decoration and Patriotic Bottle Art Competitions were jointly judged by Ms. Nicole Coutinho (Assistant Professor, Commerce Department) and Ms. Daneca D’Cruz (Assistant Professor, Physics Department).

The competitions received an overwhelming response with 31 entries for Patriotic Bottle Art, 10 entries for Map Decoration and 31 entries for Tricolour Food Preparation. Students exhibited exemplary creativity, patriotism and artistic flair through their entries.

The occasion was graced by the presence of our Dr. Aldina Braganza (Principal), Sr. Maria Ishapriya A.C. (Manager), Prof. Dr. Sr. Doris D’Souza A.C. (Educational Institute Consultant and Educational Expert for Quality Control) and Ms. Cheryl Alvares (Head of Chemistry Department), along with other faculty members who appreciated the student’s active participation and talent.

2nd Prize: Ms. Maseera Kausar (Sem -V)

3rd Prize: Ms. Divya Nagekar (Sem -I)

 Patriotic Bottle Art

1st Prize: Ms. Alfina Rodrigues (Sem -V)

2nd Prize: Ms. Mansi Lotlikar (Sem -I)

3rd Prize: Ms. Vinita Kalgutkar (Sem -V)

Map Decoration (Textiles of India Theme)

1st Prize: Ms. Saniya Kumari (Sem -V)

2nd Prize: Ms. Anjali Gawas (Sem -V)

3rd Prize: Ms. Kushi Savita (Sem -V)

The event concluded with words of encouragement and appreciation from the principal and faculty members. The celebration not only ignited a strong sense of patriotism but also gave a platform for students to exhibit their innovation and ingenuity while cherishing the spirit of Independence Day.

 Outcomes of the Activities:

  1. Students developed a strong sense of national pride and patriotism by learning about India’s history, culture and symbols.
  2. The activities foster environmental awareness and responsible citizenship by promoting sustainable practices, like recycling in bottle art.
  3. Overall, students gain cultural knowledge, social values, and life skills that help build their confidence and commitment towards their country and community.
