The NSS Unit in collaboration with the Women’s Cell of Carmel College of Arts, Science & Commerce for Women organized a Self-Defence Training Session for students on 30th September 2025 in the college auditorium. The session aimed to equip students with practical skills to protect themselves in situations of threat or danger.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Principal, who highlighted the importance of self-defence and encouraged students to actively participate. The resource person, Mr. Vishal Rodrigues, a 2nd Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo, national player, and current Head Coach of Infinity Taekwondo Academy, was formally welcomed with a potted plant as a gesture of appreciation.

Mr. Rodrigues, assisted by his training partner, conducted an interactive session that began with a warm-up routine and included: three defensive positions, three types of punches, techniques to counter threats such as throat grabs, hair pulls, and similar assaults.

Participants were also instructed on the use of everyday items such as nails, keys, pens, and stones as improvised self-defence tools, including guidance on how to apply them effectively. The training emphasized targeting weak points to ensure immediate disengagement from attackers.

The session was entirely practical and hands-on, enabling participants to build confidence and enhance their personal safety skills. The programme was well-received and successfully contributed towards empowering students with essential self-defence knowledge.
