The Department of English, Carmel College for Women, Nuvem, inaugurated the Carmel Cine Club on 25th August 2025 at 11:30 a.m. in the college auditorium. The event was attended by the faculty members, invited guests, and 41 students. The film club has the membership of 70 students. The programme commenced with a prayer by Shanely Menezes, followed by a warm welcome address delivered by Joselyn Thayil. Dr. Glenis Mendonca highlighted its vision to encourage film appreciation, critical thinking, and creativity among students. Tanushree introduced the distinguished guest, Associate Producer of Tumbbad, Ms. Shibani Keshkamat Tait, while Shree introduced Director Mr. Raaj Rakesh. The head of the Department of English, Dr. Glenis Mendonca presented a token of appreciation to the guests. The formal inauguration was marked by the traditional lighting of the lamp by Film Producer Ms. Shibani Keshkamat, Director Raaj Rakesh, Dr. Glenis Mendonca, Dr Brian Mendonca, Ms. Ashwini Kumar, Ms. Saloni Singh, the president of the film club, and the Secretary Ms. Tanushree.
Ms. Shibani Keshkamat Tait delivered an engaging talk titled “The Untold Stories of Tumbbad: From a Producer Who Loved It but Could Not Produce It”, offering behind-the-scenes insights into the making of the acclaimed film. This was followed by the screening of a short film, ‘Hope’ by Director Raaj Rakesh. Mr. Raaj Rakesh further shared his experiences of filmmaking, shedding light on the challenges and creative processes involved in cinema. An interactive Q&A session with students and faculty members allowed participants to engage with the guests in a lively exchange of ideas. The event concluded with a group photograph and a heartfelt Vote of Thanks proposed by Dr. Glenis Mendonca. The inauguration of the Carmel Cine Club was a resounding success, inspiring students to explore cinema not only as entertainment but also as a cultural, artistic, and academic medium of expression.
