Nuvem, August 12 – The Department of Library, Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, Nuvem, marked National Librarian’s Day with a special celebration that also witnessed the inauguration of the Reader’s Mind Club.

Hosted by College Librarian Ms. Yuga Adarkar, the programme began with a prayer by Ms. Andrea D’Souza, followed by Dr. Aldina Branganza e Gomes, Principal, along with members of the Library Service Committee, faculty, and library staff paying homage to Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science.

Mr. Presley Pereira, Librarian Grade-I, delivered a brief talk on Dr. Ranganathan’s life and legacy. Ms. Adarkar then introduced the Reader’s Mind Club and showcased the E-Catalogue of Subscribed Journals, which features the title pages of all 32 journals subscribed by the college and is accessible via the college website.

The Reader’s Mind Club will conduct three types of activities – Lecture/Author Meet Series, Student Activities, and a Book Club open to students, faculty, and staff. In her address, Dr. Branganza e Gomes said, “The Reader’s Mind Club will encourage students and teachers to read more books, thereby fostering a reading culture in our institution, because books keep readers grounded to original ideas.”

During the inauguration, 22 students joined the club. The elected office bearers are: President – Ms. Anisha Sharma, Vice President – Ms. Apurva Patil, and Secretary – Ms. Yutika.

As part of the celebrations, members participated in “One Quote, Endless Inspirations”, where they introduced an author, the title of a book, and shared an inspiring quote. Hindi faculty Ms. Deepali Sutar also presented a memorable quote.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Yuga Adarkar.
