Department of Botany, Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune in association with National Medicinal Plant Board, Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India conducted a two-days training programme titled ‘Medicinal Plants Cultivation, Processing and Marketing’ on 21st and 22nd September, 2024 at Goa College of Agriculture, Ela Farm, Old Goa. During the programme several eminent researchers in the field presented lead lectures on diversity of medicinal plants in Goa and their importance, methods of commercial cultivation and processing of medicinal plants, medicinal plants marketing, medicinal plants and various traditional systems of medicine and establishment of farmer producer company, farmer producer organization and start-ups in medicinal plants sector. Various schemes at the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) were also discussed. A field visit on identification of medicinal plants in nearby locality was conducted. Overall, the programme provided the students with latest knowledge on cultivation, processing and marketing of medicinal plants in Goa. The programme was attended by 6 students who were accompanied by Dr. Puja Sakhalkar and Ms. Pratiksha Dabolkar, faculty of the Botany Department.
