Students of the Department of English of Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, Nuvem, Goa in collaboration with the Village Panchayat of Nuvem, planted saplings at Nuvem village today. They were supported by Ms. Frida D’Sa, Sarpanch of Nuvem and her team who were present at the site. The initiative emerged from a best practice of Carmel College with its theme as ‘Carers for the Soil.’ Ms. Frida said it was important to care for nature and get youth back to it. The students read the poem ‘Digging’ by Seamus Heaney at the site. Dr. Brian Mendonca, Faculty and poet, who accompanied the students said it was wonderful to plant a sapling in the red mud of Goa. Students enjoyed the experience in the great outdoors surrounded by lush greenery after the rains.
