The Department of Psychology at Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, Nuvem, played host to Psychomania 2026, an inter-school Psychology Festival held from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Designed to spark curiosity about the human mind and behaviour among school students, the festival gave participants a chance to move beyond textbooks and engage with psychology as a living, interactive science.
The event opened with a prayer and a brief welcome address by Dr. Michelle Fernandes, followed by the ceremonial ribbon-cutting that formally inaugurated the festival. The ribbon was cut by Principal Dr. Aldina Braganza, Manager Sr. Isha Priya A.C., and management representative Prof. Sr. Maria Aradhana A.C.
The festival drew enthusiastic participation from 11 higher secondary schools and 4 high schools across the state, bringing together roughly 550 students along with their accompanying faculty.
At the heart of the day were a series of hands-on mini-experiments designed and conducted by the Department, giving students first-hand exposure to core psychological concepts such as memory, attention span, reaction time, perception, and the Stroop effect. These stations were set up across the College Auditorium, the Ad Block, and the PG Departments, allowing students to rotate through the exhibits and explore different facets of psychological science in an informal, experiential setting.
The festival also featured a Mindful Awareness Session at the College’s Yoga Centre, introducing students to mindfulness practices and their role in mental well-being — a reflective counterpoint to the more experimental, exhibit-based activities elsewhere on campus.
Rounding off the day, a sports activity component was organised at the College Gymkhana and Football Ground, adding a recreational, physical dimension to the festival and ensuring participants left with a well-rounded experience that extended beyond the classroom.
