José Lourenço, writer and civil engineer spoke on the topic ‘How to Write a Story’ on 11 September 2026 in the IQAC room at Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, Nuvem. Mr. Lourenço was welcomed by the Vice Principal Ms. Aldina Braganza. Dr. Glenis Mendonça introduced Mr. Lourenço. Mr. Lourenço spoke about his creative process; the linguistic issues in translating his stories from Konkani to English; and the need to record one’s dreams. He played three songs – one of which was ‘Yesterday’ by the Beatles – and said all were inspired by dreams. He brought along several notebooks and diaries and showed examples of his writing. He advised the students not to throw away the paper on which they write because it could be valuable someday. Mr. Lourenço distributed copies of his book Fever and Other Stories among the students. The talk was followed by a Q&A session. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Brian Mendonça.
