Guest Lecture on Prevention of Drug Abuse

ACTIVITY REPORT

Objective(s) of the Activity:

• To create awareness among students about the harmful effects of drug abuse.
• To educate students about the different types of drugs and current substance abuse trends.
• To familiarize students with preventive strategies against drug abuse and trafficking.
• To encourage students to make informed and responsible life choices.

Activity Overview:

The Department of Psychology, through the Thrive Tribe Club, organized a guest lecture on “Prevention of Drug Abuse” on 08 July 2026 at the College Auditorium. The session was conducted by Mr. Dindayal Redkar, PSI, Anti-Narcotic Cell, Goa.

The speaker began by explaining the growing concern of substance abuse among young people and emphasized the importance of prevention through awareness and education. He provided students with an understanding of the various categories of drugs, including natural, synthetic, and semi-synthetic drugs.

Mr. Redkar also discussed the changing patterns and emerging trends in drug abuse, particularly among adolescents and college students. He highlighted the various tactics used by drug peddlers to lure young individuals into substance use, including peer influence, social gatherings, misleading advertisements, and the false promise of stress relief or enhanced performance. Students were cautioned about these manipulative methods and encouraged to remain vigilant.

The session further focused on the role and functioning of the Anti-Narcotic Cell, Goa, highlighting its efforts in preventing drug trafficking, spreading awareness, conducting investigations, and working with educational institutions to promote a drug-free society.

The lecture concluded with an interactive discussion, during which students actively participated by asking questions and clarifying their doubts. The session served as an eye-opener and reinforced the importance of making informed decisions and leading a healthy, drug-free life.

• Students understood the latest trends in substance abuse and the common tactics used to introduce individuals to drugs.
