Abhivyakti (Carmel College Cultural Club-c/o Department of Konkani) of Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, Nuvem-Goa participated in Parikrama 0.8 (a two-day cultural event) organised by Parikrama Knowledge Terminus in collaboration with Ravindra Bhavan Margao, held on February 7th and 8th 2026 at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao. The event was a huge success, with Carmel College emerging as Champions amongst 11 other teams including educational institutions and professional youth groups.

The event was flagged off 14th December 2025 with an orientation programme held at the black box, Ravindra bhavan Margao. For the first time an all-women’s institution has won the overall trophy.  Along with the students, faculty members of the college viz. Miss. Nidhi Naik, Sonia Gomes and Vishwapratap Pawar participated in some of the competitions.

The event started from the first week of January with off-stage events like Campaign Art (wall painting), Instagram Reel making, Photography, Research essay, and Infographics. The prize-winning wall painting has been painted on the compound wall of Margao Cricket Club in Margao.

The main event of Parikrama 0.8, i.e.the 2-day event was held between 7-8 February 2026.

Day 1 of the event began with a parade procession, led by famous literary, film personalities from Goa. Each team, including Carmel Women’s College, showcased their energy and excitement during the procession. Our procession had personalities like Nayana Adarkar (Konkani Poet), Dr. Brian Mendonca (Professor and writer), Dr. Glenis Mendonca (Professor, writer), Shobha Fulkar (Konkani Writer), Saraswati Naik (Konkani Writer), Siddesh Bhagat (Youth Politician) and Cosia Oliviera (Young Tiatrist).

The parade was also graced by the presence of our alumni who are contributing to the field of Konkani theatre, Konkani films, etc.They included Sarah Pinheiro (singer, social media content creator), Jade Cruz (comedian, film actor) and Shaneli Rodrigues (emcee, social media content creator).

The inaugural and opening ceremony followed, marking the official start of the event. During the inaugural ceremony Mr. Vishwapratap Pawar (Assistant Professor of Konkani) was awarded the 8th Madhavi Sardessai Youth Teacher Award 2026.

The first day’s competitions included Folk Fitness, Folk Studio, Research Essay Presentation and Infographics.

Day 2 began with fierce sports competitions, including Penalty Shot, Lagoreo, Langdi, Koyne Bails and Tyre Relay. The cultural events followed, with Carmel Women’s College participating in Kanyekar, Box Theatre, Game Rough, Mascot, Fashion Show.

Overall, Carmel College won the first place becoming the champions of Parikrama 0.8 with a total score of 652.

Key Highlights:

1. In the Box Theatre Carmel college performed a Konkani Theatre Adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe’s English short fiction story named ‘The tell tale heart’. The play highlighted the issue of sexual harassment, violence against women in the workspace and the households. The play was well received by the audience as well as the judges and Carmel college won the 1st place in the said competition. The play was written and directed by Mr. Vishwapratap Pawar.

2. For the competition called Folk studio (Reprise version of a Konkani folk singing form), Carmel college presented mando and dulpod, a Goan folk singing art in a modern day reprised version which was conferred with 2nd best rendition. This song was conceptualised and designed by Mr. Vishwapratap Pawar, Kiara Fernandes, Shannon Costa and Rishona Gomes.

3. In the Folk Fitness (A fitness routine based on the folk dances of Goa) Carmel college stood tall with bagging the first place. The routine was choreographed by Mr. Vishwapratap Pawar and Raizel Araujo.

4. Fashion Show was a treat to watch as our models walked the track with self-designed costumes based on the theme of Goan heritage. The walk, narration and the overall presentation helped Carmel college sweep the last final 1st place too.
