Activity Overview:

The Department of History organised the Peace / Martyrs’ Day programme on 30 January 2026 at 9.20 a.m. under the Administrative Block to commemorate the martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi and to reflect upon his enduring message of peace and non-violence.

The programme began with a solemn prayer, setting a reflective and respectful tone for the observance. This was followed by a floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, offered by the Principal, the Department In-Charge, faculty members, and students, as a mark of reverence and gratitude to the Father of the Nation.

Thereafter, Ms. Hazel Fernandes delivered a short yet meaningful speech highlighting the teachings, values, and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, with special emphasis on truth (Satya), non-violence (Ahimsa), peace, and moral courage. The speech encouraged students to internalise Gandhian ideals in their personal and social lives.

Subsequently, students rendered Mahatma Gandhi’s favourite bhajan, “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram,” which added a spiritual and emotional dimension to the programme and reinforced the message of unity and peace.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Mr. Agnelo Dias, faculty member of the Department of History. The observance formally ended with the collective singing of the National Anthem, instilling a sense of patriotism and national unity among the participants.

The programme witnessed active participation from students of the Department of History and NSS volunteers, whose presence contributed to the success and solemnity of the event.
