The NSS Unit together with the Departments of Economics and History of Carmel College of Arts, Science & Commerce for Women, Nuvem-Goa organised an awareness session on the topic “Circular Economy Approaches to Sustainable E-waste Management” on 16th September 2025 at 11:30am in UGCR 07. The resource person for the session was Mr. Soham Prabhu, CEO of CAM Industrial Services and founder director of Global E-Waste Management Systems.

The programme commenced with the Head of the Department of Economics Dr. Anna Rovina Fernandes setting the theme and tone of the session. This was followed by the brief introduction of the guest speaker by a faculty member from the Department of Economics Ms. Vardhana Dessai. Mr. Prabhu started by explaining the concept of e-waste and its growing relevance in today’s technology-driven world. He highlighted how informal handling of e-waste poses serious health and environmental hazards.

During his talk, he elaborated on best practices for e-waste management and discussed the differences between the linear economy model and the circular economy approach. He emphasised the importance of adopting circular economy strategies to ensure the efficient use of resources and stressed the crucial role of e-waste management in achieving sustainable development goals.

The session was highly interactive, as Mr. Prabhu also clarified students’ doubts and engaged them in meaningful discussions. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by a student representative Ms. Sheron Phadti.

The session was attended by around 80 students and 6 faculty members including the two NSS Programme Officers from the Departments of History and Economics ie Ms Anette Gomes and Ms. Pooja Yadav. The event successfully sensitised the participants about responsible e-waste management and its significance for both society and the environment.
