The Department of Psychology organized a guest lecture on 1st July 2025, titled “From Classroom to Career”, aimed at guiding and motivating students to explore career paths in the field of psychology. The session was delivered by Ms. Shivani Kenny, an alumna of the postgraduate Department of Psychology of the college and currently a Ph.D. scholar at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS).

In her talk, Ms. Kenny shared her academic journey—from her postgraduate days to securing admission into a prestigious Ph.D. program. She provided students with a detailed overview of life as a research scholar and the various academic and professional possibilities that open up after pursuing higher education in psychology. She also shed light on the process of applying for Ph.D. programs and emphasized the importance of academic readiness, research interest, and persistence.

A significant part of her journey included clearing the National Eligibility Test (NET) with Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), which qualified her for a scholarship during her doctoral studies at BITS. She elaborated on her study approach and preparation strategies for the NET-JRF examination, encouraging students to begin early and remain consistent in their efforts. Ms. Kenny also spoke about the broad spectrum of career opportunities in psychology—ranging from research and teaching to roles in applied settings such as mental health, human resources, education, and more.

The session was attended by 55 students, all of whom actively engaged with the speaker during the interactive Q&A segment. The students benefited immensely from her practical advice, honest reflections, and motivational guidance.
