An orientation cum workshop on project paper was held on 14th July 2025 for the third-year undergraduate students, organized by the Research Development Cell of the college in collaboration with the Goa State Research Foundation (GSRF). The session was conducted by Prof. Savio P. Falleiro, Managing Director of GSRF.
Prof. Falleiro delivered an insightful and engaging session, focusing on the importance and relevance of the final year project. He emphasized that the project should not be viewed merely as a credit requirement for graduation, but rather as a valuable opportunity for academic and professional development. He stressed how a well-executed project can distinguish students in competitive spaces such as higher education and job markets.
His talk covered a wide array of essential aspects including topic selection, the collaborative nature of group work, importance of maintaining proper records and referencing, what is meant by objectives and scope, framing methodology, preparing tools and questionnaires, drafting abstracts, writing literature reviews, understanding sampling techniques, creating project schedules, and even if possible exploring publication opportunities. He also introduced the students to student-focused journals and discussed how to make “constructive” use of Artificial Intelligence tools in research. He also made students aware of the various academic penalties associated with plagiarism and the importance of accurately acknowledging sources of information.
The event was compered by Dr. Anna Rovina Ferrao Fernandes. Principal Dr. Aldina Braganza e Gomes, in her welcome address, highlighted how understanding and handling data can make learning more engaging and deepen curiosity in students. The program began with a short prayer conducted by Dr. Celia Braganza.
As a gesture of appreciation, a potted plant was presented to the speaker by Ms. Sakti Sri, a student of T.Y. B.Sc. the arrangements for this was coordinated by Dr. Puja Sakhalkar. Dr. Michelle Fernandes played a key role in managing the overall logistics and organization of the event. Throughout the session Mr. Meetal Raikar assisted the speaker with changing of the slides.
The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Manjunath Nayak, Coordinator of the Research Development Cell.
A total of 264 third-year students attended the session and greatly benefitted from the valuable insights shared. The orientation was well-received and is expected to meaningfully guide students as they begin work on their final-year projects. At the end of the session, a feedback form was circulated among the participants, and upon submission, e-certificates were emailed to them.
