The Department of Zoology, Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce organised its annual Pet Clinic in association with Worldwide Veterinary Services (WVS), Mission Rabies (Goa) and South Goa Animal Welfare trust (SGAWT) on 1st February 2023. This community outreach initiative was organised for sensitizing the students and community towards ethical treatment of pets and stray animals.
An awareness session on ‘Prevention of Rabies’ was held as well, Dr. Murugan Appupillai, the Director of Mission Rabies, India was the Resource person for the same. The event began with a prayer by Sr. Monica Andrade, Ms. Karen Braganza welcomed the resource persons, students, staff and the members of the local community. The event was addressed by Vice Principal, Dr. Sr. Maria Lizanne A.C and the Head of the Zoology Department, Dr. Manoj Borkar. The education officer of Mission Rabies, Mr. Akshay Pal spoke about the event and the active contribution of the NGO towards making Goa Rabies free from the year 2018. The faculty and students of the Department of Zoology played an active role in the organization of the event. Free Anti rabies vaccination drive along with a free medical check-up was available to the Pets. A Total of 20 pets benefitted from the Pet clinic.
