Objective(s) of the Activity:
1. To motivate undergraduate Chemistry students to develop a research mindset by
learning from Prof. Vidya Desai’s (Speaker) research journey and her dedication to
sustainable chemistry.
Activity Overview:
The Department of Chemistry organized a guest lecture titled “From Referencing to Patenting:
Driving towards a Sustainable Translation” on February 13, 2026, at UGCR 07, Carmel
College of Arts, Science & Commerce for Women, Nuvem, Goa.
The session was delivered by Prof. Vidya Desai, Professor, Department of chemistry, DM’s
College and Research Centre, Assagao-Bardez-Goa. The programme began with a welcome
address and a short prayer. The session was supported by the presence of faculty members and
the IQAC Coordinator, Ma’am Michelle. The resource person was formally introduced by Dr.
Madhavi Naik. As a token of appreciation, a potted plant was presented to the speaker.
The lecture focused on the speaker’s research journey, key learnings from research life, and the
importance of resilience, curiosity, and scientific discipline. The speaker also strongly
promoted Green Chemistry, encouraging both students and faculty to adopt safer and
environmentally responsible practices in laboratory work and academic projects. The session
concluded with interaction and student takeaways, followed by a formal vote of thanks.
Outcomes of the Activity:
• Students gained motivation to pursue research and understood how research evolves from ideas to outcomes.
• Increased awareness about Organic Chemistry research orientation and Green Chemistry practices.
• Enhanced confidence among students, especially women students to explore science and research careers.
