Gujrati Samaj, Margao, is a charitable institution dedicated to the education, care, and rehabilitation of children with Special Educational Needs (SEN). The institution provides a supportive and inclusive environment tailored to the diverse developmental, cognitive, and physical needs of its students. Through a multidisciplinary approach, Gujrati Samaj offers specialized services such as special education, vocational training, physiotherapy, and speech therapy, aiming to enhance functional independence and overall wellbeing. The institution plays a significant role in promoting inclusive practices and improving the quality of life of children with special needs in the region.
The visit commenced with a movement therapy session, where the TYBA students actively engaged the school children through guided movements using different beats and rhythms. This session aimed to promote physical coordination, emotional expression, and social interaction among the students.
Following this, the TYBA students were divided into smaller groups and assigned to different classrooms within the institution. This allowed them to observe and interact closely withstudents and faculty across various settings. The students were exposed to a range of specialized classrooms, including:
- Vocational training units
- Physiotherapy rooms
- Speech therapy rooms
- Classrooms catering to different functional and academic levels
The faculty members of Gujrati Samaj shared their professional expertise, practical experiences, and insights into working with children with diverse developmental and learning needs. These interactions helped students gain a deeper understanding of multidisciplinary approaches in special education.
After the institutional visit, the group proceeded to Garça Branca for a scheduled recreational break and lunch, providing students with an opportunity for relaxation and informal reflection on the learning experience.
The group returned safely to Carmel College at 4:30 p.m., marking the conclusion of the visit.
