The Department of History, Carmel College, organised a state-level intercollegiate cultural event titled “Goemchem Daiz” on 15 January 2026 at the college auditorium, celebrating Goem Asmitai and Goa’s rich cultural heritage. The programme commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by addresses highlighting the need to preserve Goan identity and cultural consciousness among youth.

The Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Juao Costa, emphasised the role of students and academic institutions in safeguarding Goa’s heritage. The event featured competitions in Elocution, Dance, and Fashion Show, all centred on Goan culture, traditions, and history. Participants presented thought-provoking speeches, vibrant folk dances, and traditional attire representing Goan occupations and communities.

Six colleges from across Goa participated enthusiastically. The performances were evaluated by a distinguished panel of judges, who appreciated the creativity and authenticity displayed. Ganpat Parsekar College of Education, Harmal–Pernem, emerged as the overall winner. The event successfully fostered cultural pride, creativity, and intercollegiate bonding among students.
