 Objective(s) of the Activity:

  1. To promote student well-being through positive psychology interventions.
  2. To strengthen peer connection and support among students.

Activity Overview:

The Post Graduate Department of Psychology, Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, Nuvem– Goa organised a peer engagement series for the First-Year students of M.A. Psychology from 21st to 23rd January 2026 in PG CR 1. The series focused on improving student well-being and building peer connections through positive psychology activities conducted by the peer facilitators.

The series adopted an experiential learning approach, where students actively participated in structured activities designed to enhance patience, empathy, gratitude, hope, self-acceptance, and mindfulness. The first day of the series, that is 21st January 2026, students were guided through a mindfulness breathing exercise to develop calmness and patience, followed by a non-verbal empathy practice focusing on attentive listening and body language. The activity enhanced emotional awareness and interpersonal sensitivity. Students were then encouraged to engage in a ‘mindful pause talk’ to pause mindfully before responding in conversations, encouraging reflection and self-regulation.

The second day of the series, 22nd January 2026 focused on building gratitude. Students were guided to express gratitude using a gratitude tree by reflecting on their support systems (roots), strengths (trunk), relationships and opportunities (branches and leaves), achievements (fruits), challenges as growth (compost), and future hopes (flowers). The activity fostered appreciation and positive perspective. The second activity involved guiding students to reflect on their limitations and strengths, core beliefs, hidden insecurities, meaningful relationships, and past regrets using a structured hand framework. By acknowledging both vulnerabilities and positive qualities, the activity enhanced self-awareness, self-acceptance, and emotional growth.

The third day of the series, 23rd January 2026 revolved around building hope and experiencing flow. Students were guided to cultivate hope through relaxation and future visualization, followed by writing letters filled with encouragement, aspirations, and positive expectations for themselves. Placing the letters in a mailbox to be opened after three years strengthened hopeful thinking, motivation, and belief in personal growth. In the final activity of the series, students were guided to engage in focused pattern drawing in silence to experience deep concentration and mindfulness. Reflection and positive feedback helped them recognise flow, creativity, and calmness.

Overall, the Well-being in Action series successfully enhanced student well-being through peer-led positive psychology activities, fostering gratitude, hope, mindfulness, empathy, and self-acceptance in a supportive environment.
