Objectives of the Activity:
- To create awareness about different types of addiction among youth.
- To sensitise youth to early signs, risks, and consequences of addiction.
- To dispel myths and reduce stigma related to addiction.
Activity Overview:
On 12th January 2026, in commemoration of National Youth Day 2026, the Department of Postgraduate Psychology, organized an awareness programme titled “Know It Before It Controls You: Addiction Awareness for Youth” on the college campus, targeting the youth. The programme aimed to create awareness about different forms of addiction, their consequences, and the importance of prevention and early intervention.
The M.A. Psychology students actively participated by creating awareness through reels, posters, a skit, a myths-and-facts session, and a short film titled “Aiz Mhazo Birthday,” which highlighted the psychological and social impact of addiction. The programme helped in increasing awareness, correcting misconceptions, and encouraging healthy choices among students. Overall, the initiative successfully sensitized the youth and promoted a supportive and informed campus environment.
Outcomes of the Activity:
- Improved awareness and understanding of addiction among youth.
- Positive attitude change towards addiction and help-seeking.
