The Department of Political Science, Carmel College of Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, Nuvem, Goa, in collaboration with the National Human Rights Council (NHRC), New Delhi, organized a one-day training programme titled “Empowering Youth for Human Rights: Awareness and Sensitization on the Concerns of Marginalized Groups.” on 3rd February,2026. The programme was held at the Carmel College Auditorium and was coordinated by Ms. Louise Ann Sequeira, Head of the Department of Political Science.

A total of 7 colleges and 107 students from different parts of Goa participated in the training programme. The event comprised four sessions focusing on key marginalized groups, namely Women, Children, Persons with Disabilities, and Senior Citizens. Resource persons deliberated on the challenges faced by these groups and highlighted the need for greater awareness, sensitivity, and advocacy for their rights.

In addition to the sessions, four competitions were conducted, these were Poster Making, Reel Making, Caption Writing, and Acronym expansion competitions, encouraging students to engage creatively with issues of human rights.

The Inaugural Session was graced by Mr. Samir Kumar, Joint Secretary, NHRC, New Delhi, who emphasized the significance of human rights education among youth. The Valedictory Session was presided over by Dr. Rahul Tripathi, Professor, D.D. Kosambi School of Social Sciences and Behavioural Studies, Goa University, who urged students to uphold human rights principles and actively promote awareness of the same in society.

The programme concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners of various competitions and a formal Vote of Thanks by a faculty member of the Department of Political Science.
