Objective(s) of the Activity:
- To introduce students to the fundamentals of web development using HTML and CSS.
- To familiarize participants with WordPress for website creation, customization, and management.
- To develop practical skills in designing responsive and functional web pages.
- To enhance creativity, technical confidence, and career-ready competencies in web design and digital content creation.
Activity Overview:
The Department of Information Technology, Carmel College for Women, Nuvem, successfully conducted a 30-hour Certificate Course on Web Design and Digital Creativity in collaboration with MICE, Margao. The course commenced on 29th July 2025 and concluded on 13th September 2025 with a final examination.
The course was inaugurated with a short prayer, followed by a welcome address by Dr. Solley Thomas, Course Co-Ordinator. Dr. Thomas highlighted that the course aimed to equip students with practical web design and digital content creation skills. The Principal, Dr. Aldina Gomes, officially inaugurated the course and encouraged students to utilize this opportunity to enhance their technical and creative abilities.
Over the span of 30 hours, participants were introduced to the fundamentals of HTML and CSS, covering semantic tags, tables, multimedia integration, forms, Flexbox—laying a solid foundation for web design. Subsequently, they were guided through WordPress, where they learned to create and customize websites using themes, plugins, and page builders. This combination of hands-on technical learning and creative design enabled students to practically apply their knowledge and build sample websites with confidence. The sessions were conducted by expert faculty from MICE Computer Academy, whose dedicated teaching
and practical demonstrations made the course interactive and engaging.
The valedictory and certificate distribution ceremony was held on 18th October 2025 in the presence of Dr. Michelle (IQAC Co-ordinator), Ms. Minal Keni, and Ms. Kala Shanbhag, along with the Course Co-ordinator, Dr. Solley Thomas, and other staff members of the department. Nineteen students successfully completed the course. Dr. Solley Thomas appreciated the commitment and enthusiasm of all the participants and congratulated them on successfully completing the course. She summarized the key learnings of the programme and extended special thanks to Dr. Michelle for consenting to be present for the function, to Ms. Kala Shanbhag for her valuable guidance throughout the training, and to Ms. Minal Keni (MICE, Margao Centre In charge) for her support in coordinating the course. She also expressed gratitude to the Principal and the Management of the college for their constant encouragement and support in organizing such courses that enrich students with practical and career-oriented skills.
The course empowered students with essential web development and design skills, combining creativity with technology and preparing them for academic and professional growth.
