Activity Overview:

On the occasion of World Mental Health Day, the Thrive Tribe Club of the Department of Psychology, in collaboration with the cultural club Abhivyakti, organised a mental health awareness program on campus.

The event commenced with the screening of the short film The Last Piece, directed, produced, and written by Mr. Hari Naik. The film sensitively explored the themes of dementia and suicide, highlighting the emotional struggles faced by individuals. Its powerful storytelling provided a meaningful context for discussing mental health challenges.

The filmmaker himself was present at the screening and interacted with the students, who asked insightful questions about the concept, filming process, and message behind the story.

This was followed by an inspiring and interactive talk by psychiatrist Dr. Belinda Viegas on the topic “Choosing Happiness.” She spoke about how happiness is often missing in today’s world and emphasised ways to cultivate happiness both internally and externally. Through practical insights, she encouraged students to focus on self-awareness, gratitude, relationships, and mindful living.

The event effectively combined creative expression and expert insights to deepen students’ understanding of mental health and emotional well-being.

The event concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners of various competitions held throughout the week and the photography competition organised as part of the Thrive Tribe Club, adding a celebratory and encouraging note to the program.

Outcomes of the Activity:

  1. Increased awareness and understanding of mental health issues and the importance of prioritising emotional well-being.
  2. Enhanced knowledge of practical strategies to foster happiness in daily life.
  3. Opportunity for students to interact directly with a mental health professional and a filmmaker, promoting interdisciplinary learning.
