Objective(s) of the Activity:
- Promote understanding of the mole concepts and nanotechnology.
- Relate the mole concept to nanoscale dimension.
- Encourage interest in chemistry and understanding its application.
Activity Overview:
To commemorate The Mole Day and The National Nanotechnology Day, On 16th October 2025, Department of Chemistry organised a guest lecture on the topic: Mole Concept in Nanotechnology for the chemistry students. The talk was delivered by guest speaker Dr. (Ms.) Harsha P. Uskaikar, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, P.E.S’s R.S.N College of Arts and Science, Farmagudi, Ponda. Total 73 participants attended the session.
The programme was compered by Ms. Tanisha Costa, which began with prayer and introduction of guest speaker. Head of the Department Ms. Fatima Gracias welcomed the gathering and emphasized on the importance of this day. The guest speaker was welcomed by presenting a potted plant. With her extensive experience in the field, the guest speaker began the talk explaining the importance of nanotechnology and how it can be used in various fields in day to day life by giving examples. She explained about mole, Avogadro’s number and the relation of mole concept in nanoscale dimension. She also gave career advice to our students to pursue research. The talk was very interesting and ended with question -answer session.
Ms. Priyanka announced the winners of the three competition’s held on the occasion of Independence Day and the prizes were given to the winners by Dr. Harsha Uskaikar, Ms. Fatima Gracias and Ms. Cheryl Alvares.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by the programme coordinator Ms. Tanisha Costa.
Outcomes of the Activity:
- Participants gained knowledge about the concept of molar mass, Avogadro’s number, nanotechnology and its various applications in different fields.
- Students were inspired to pursue research due to the immense scope and possibilities in this field.
