Activity Overview
On 24 September 2025, 4 students of the Postgraduate Department of Psychology organized a self-care session for the staff of Serena Palliative Care on the topic of Self-Compassion. The session aimed to support healthcare professionals in managing the emotional demands of palliative care work.
The students introduced the principles of self-compassion—self-kindness, common humanity, and mindfulness. The session offered insights into recognizing and addressing burnout and compassion fatigue. Through a mix of reflective journaling, and group discussions, staff were encouraged to prioritize their own emotional well-being. Participants were deeply engaged, openly sharing personal experiences and expressing appreciation for the safe, supportive environment the session provided.
Overall, the session successfully reinforced the importance of compassion not just for patients, but also for oneself, contributing to a healthier and more resilient workplace culture.
